About

Founded out of love, Just the Basics with Jessica White was inspired by good old fashioned home cooking and the learning and teaching involved.

I am in the process of qualifying as a Pastry Chef, I have finished the first part of my apprenticeship and am part way through my final year as a trainee at The Royal Hotel on the Isle of Wight, England. Although my cooking didn’t start there, I’ve cooked at home with my mum since I was a small child, helping with Christmas cakes and dinners all the time. From there I started to make my own cakes and decorated them for my brother’s birthdays and any occasion I could think of! So much so that I am going on cake decorating courses this year and hopefully can then start something new and maybe even get some career ideas.
So pretty much everything I’ve learnt and do is from good ‘ole fashioned home cooking! My mum has taught me everything she learnt from her mum and one day I will do the same for my children… unfortunately there are so many people my age that just do not know how to cook; how can you go through life without being able to cook for yourself? So with the help of my fiancée I started this blog, to hopefully teach people simple things (and necessary things) such as how to cook rice or potatoes, make meals that are diverse and exciting. From there change their tastes and don’t forget to experiment! Baking is not as hard as people seem to think as long as someone is able to teach you the methods. If you learn the basics then you can move onto the complex and from there do pretty much anything and experiment with all sorts!

My wish with this is to help those wanting to learn ‘just the basics’ of cooking and have a little fun and laughter on the way.
